What it does
When using this device as a deaf-mute person, a smart glove can convert sign language into speech, which in turn helps normal people to easily understand the deaf-and-dumb. The device can also make a number of simple sentences.
Your inspiration
The creation of the device began with participation in an international social project, where we met with Dmitry, he was deaf-and-dumb from birth, and from that time we have been working with this project. When working with social workers and people with hearing problems, we found that 70,000 people in Kazakhstan have hearing problems, and more than 360 million people in the world today are deaf or hard of hearing. 165 million of them are people over 65 years old. And 32 million of hearing impaired and deaf - children younger than 15 years. These are the data of the World Health Organization for 2013.
How it works
Our prototype smart glove allows you to turn them into mechanical messages from a mechanical movement of the hand, and a smart bracelet helps to produce these messages, and also when the respondent responds, converts the human conversation to the form of characters on the display. Smart glove version 0.1 consists of a fabric glove and a special LED tube (created by ourselves) in an amount of 5 pieces. Each tube is attached to each finger of the hand and a smart bracelet device is connected. When the movement of the hand information is transmitted to the smart bracelet, where in the future an audio message is issued. The smart bracelet of versions 0.3 is currently integrated with a GPS sensor, three SOS buttons, a battery, a radio signal, Bluetooth, a vibrator, a display, a mechanism that defines a voice message and a call button for a doorbell or food buttons.
Design process
We divided our process into several stages: 1. Create smart glove version 0.1 with at least 5 different teams; 2. Initially, we developed a prototype of the Smart Bracelet Version 0.1. The prototype "Smart Bracelet Version 0.2" was developed completely from scratch. The following features have been implemented: The size of the original "version 0.1" has been reduced by 75%. Was installed: - vibrator; - Call button "Call" on a passer-by door; - radio mechanism for transmitting signals. - works only from a laptop. The prototype "Smart Bracelet Version 0.3" was developed completely from scratch. The following features have been implemented: The size of the original "version 0.1" has been reduced by 50%. Was installed: - vibrator; - "Call" was set; - radio mechanism for transmitting signals. - “Bluetooth” mechanism for signaling. - “Display”. - set conversational mechanism. "Smart bracelet versions 0.3" works autonomously without a laptop using a battery device. 3. Synchronize smart bracelet and smart glove into one single device called Smart hand "Helper". It is in the planning, experimentation, and study stages. 4. The last stage of the use of Smart hand "Helper" in conjunction with various gadgets and technologies in the field of social networking.
How it is different
- The first step we managed to reduce the cost of our prototype of a smart glove to $ 20 and create the first prototype of a smart bracelet of $ 50. “Our device can also be easily used in autar-technologies, which in turn makes it universal. - The next uniqueness of our technology is its use as a tool for the rehabilitation of patients who have had a stroke or other possible diseases that impede speaking. - The uniqueness of our technology will allow to remove the barrier of knowledge of international languages and schools for learning the deaf and dumb, where they will create their own alphabet and dictionary of words by the user using our technology. - The world has about 360 million people suffering from a hearing problem, hence the possibility of creating a special platform like a social network for people with hearing problems.
Future plans
The next step will be: -the creation of special programs and applications for the device Smart hand "Helper"; -thinking of the use of our technology not only for the deaf-and-dumb, but also for people suffering from other terrible diagnoses, making it difficult to communicate with people. With Smart hand "Helper", we create a future in which our technology will provide people with disabilities a convenient and affordable way to communicate anywhere in the world. In parallel, our technology can be used in underwater archeologies, in military technologies, in cosmologies, cybernetics, avatar technologies, and dangerous radioactive materials.
