What it does

Class Corner can boost the interactivity of distance learning. Students can interact with their teacher intuitively through a few gestures. The teacher may get to know students’ learning effectiveness and give them instant feedback in the online class.


Your inspiration

E-learning has grown in significance over the years. Interestingly, there have been more efforts at advancing technology than on attempting to understand the needs and learning styles of individual learners and instructional design. Pupils who need to focus and interact in the class have faced the problems of poor learning effectiveness. After interviewing our target users, we found out that student-centered instruction helps students cultivate a “can do” attitude and allows for autonomous and active learning. Therefore, we try to let students interact with their teacher intuitively through a few gestures as if they were in the classroom.


How it works

Class Corner is composed of a smart projector, an interactive cube and e-learning website. In the online class, teachers can interact with students simply through their computers. They can remind students to join the class by ringing their interactive cube as if the school bell rings in the school. Whenever students have questions, they can shake their interactive cube, and the teacher would notice. The smart projector also makes it easier for students to take a shot at their homework and hand it in. The smart projector can be a standalone touchscreen computer used independently to perform tasks. With the eye-protecting projection interface and front camera lens, students can pay more attention to the course, take screenshotting, and share screens. The interactive cube enhances the interactivity of remote teaching through answering and asking functions. It can also give students instant feedback through adding points, evaluations, and private calls.


Design process

【User Research】 After interviewing teachers, parents, and students, we decided to design for primary school students(9-13years old) since... ◆ They have e-learning ability ◆ Need to develop self-learning ability ◆ Needs of interaction in class We found out that the pain points they face in the online learning are : ◆ distract by Internet ◆ sense of loneliness ◆ cannot stay focus in class 【Brainstorming】 Before jumping into design form, we had to figure out the best way for students to engage in the online class. We iterated with rough sharpie sketches and visualized as many different ways to solve this problem as we could think of. 【Customer Journey Map】 We applied these ideas into online courses' activities and analyzed the pains and gains of teachers and students during the class. 【Styling Iteration】 At First, we designed a streamlined appearance. After making a model, we found out it cannot fit the students’ rooms and desks well. So we made a geometric shape instead. 【Prototype】 We cooperated with many different professions from school, engineer to enterprises, to make a working prototype to let our user test whether it could work. 【Usability Test】 It turns out that both students and teachers are in favor of the design, and find it useful.


How it is different

The main characteristic of this design is that it brings interaction into online courses, students can interact with teachers intuitively through a few gestures and are able to get instant feedback. The interactive cube makes online courses enjoyable and smart projector provides a convenient online learning experience. With the front camera lens on the projector, students no longer have to stick to the screen, instead they can take screenshotting, and share scenes easily. Last but not least, teachers and parents can check students' learning effectiveness on the e-learning platform, which records the score, state of homework, and interactive frequency of each student.


Future plans

During the design process, we have discussed intensely with users, decision-makers and enterprises, to make sure that the product fits the market demand. Since we hope to build a product that can solve the problem radically. We are now searching for the manufacturer who is interested in our product and willing to invest in it. Hopefully, through optimizing the product persistently, it can improve the online learning experience one day.
