OXYLON

OXYLON is a biological air purifier that is reducing air pollution in public indoor spaces

  • Our MVP of OXYLON Urban in the subway of Lille

  • Our technology

  • Our production of microalgae

  • 3D render of OXYLON Urban

  • Our first prototype of OXYLON Office

What it does

At BIOTEOS we developed a pending technology that purifies the air from pollutants thanks to microalgae. Indeed, microalgae have the ability to use air pollution to develop themselves. We did install this technology in our first product: OXYLON.

Your inspiration

"Breathing kills" It may sound shocking to you, but worldwide, every year, 9 million people die because of the air pollution. To give you an idea, that's the equivalent of a city like Paris disappearing every 3 months! And this is partly explained by the fact that indoor air is considered to be much more polluted even though we spend 90% of our time there. It can be scary but at BIOTEOS we are convinced that Nature has the solution! Microalgae

How it works

Microalgae are the first producers of oxygen in the world and they have the advantage of absorbing certain atmospheric pollutants in order to develop. It is therefore by combining nature and technology that we have developed a biological filter that we have patented. We have incorporated this technology into our first product: OXYLON. Thus, several types of pollutants can be treated, including: PM2.5, PM10, VOCs, NOx and CO2 In addition, our technology is coupled with a UVc part, so that, we also treat viruses and bacteria. In order to better integrate into different spaces, we have divided our range into two products: OXYLON Urban: treats an air quantity of 700 m3/h. Suitable for large spaces such as subway stations. OXYLON Office: treats an air quantity of 150 m3/h. Suitable for small indoor spaces such as offices.

Design process

The project was born from two co-founders: Romain BAHEUX and Romain DHENIN, we met in engineering school and it was after 3 years of experience in large-scale enterprises that we decided to join forces to create BIOTEOS. We first made a state of the art to identify existing technologies, which helped us innovate to create a first prototype. This helped us find some funding to continue our R&D for another 2 years and thus patent the technology developed. We then worked with a design office to produce our first MVP. And so, since March we achieved the world's first integration of a biological air purifier in a subway station. The metro of our partner the city of Lille.

How it is different

We have other competitors who use microalgae to purify the air. However, the technology used is a « bubbling system » which is energy-intensive and with a very low flow rate of treated air. Our patented technology allows both to reduce the energy cost, but also to treat 10 times more air. Other air purification systems exist. Nevertheless, thanks to microalgae we have the advantage of: - treating CO2 indoors, which can be a real problem in offices. - slightly moisten the space - recycling our filters as fertilizer.

Future plans

We are now looking for clients to sell our products by the beginning of 2023. We already have 5 clients that are already ready to work with us. In the meanwhile, we are working on the industrialization of our process and for that we are going to hire 2 people by October 2022. We also did start a R&D program to adapt our technology for industries in the aim to treat the pollution directly from the emission point. If we had the chance to win this competition, it will be great to talk to Dyson engineers for a potential partnership to improve the efficiency of our technology.

Awards

We had the chance to be supported by many companies by winning different entrepreneurial competitions such as : - Digital In Pulse Lille by Huawei - Prix pépite - CIC Business Awards Nord Ouest - Trophées Force Awards - SpaceFox - Semeur d'innovation by Crédit Mutuel - Technopôle Domolandes - la Fabrique Aviva Nord Est
