What it does
A shelter that can be worn, integrated design fabric pattern and inflatable structure, allowing users to keep warm while moving, provide shelter when resting, and can quickly change the type of product in accordance with different situational needs.
Your inspiration
They need lightweight and versatile solutions that can keep them warm during migration and escape, adapt to different weather conditions, and provide shelter when needed. However, traditional clothing and shelters cannot meet these needs, and carrying too much weight can be a problem.
How it works
The fabric used in the design is a functional fabric that is warm and waterproof, which ensures that the user stays warm and dry while on the move. The inflatable structure is made of lightweight plastic fabric, which can be compressed into a small volume when it is not inflated, just like functional fabric, so it is not only lightweight but also easy to carry. When the user needs to use the shelter, simply blow the inflation valve, the inflatable structure will quickly expand and support the fabric, forming a shelter space, and can be used as part of the clothing when not inflated, effectively protecting the user's neck from the cold. To help users complete the transition between clothing and shelter faster, I have marked these operations in orange so that users can quickly find the key operation points and complete the transition between clothing and shelter.
Design process
【Research and Concepts】 Conduct research on homeless and refugees to understand that in addition to their shelter needs, they also need to consider mobility and wearable needs. Understand that homeless and refugees need a lightweight and multifunctional solution that can keep them warm while on the move and at the same time provide enough shelter space while resting.【Design and Prototyping】We started to design the fabric pattern and inflatable structure of the wearable shelter. We selected a suitable functional fabric and made a pattern and prototype, and also used a lightweight plastic fabric to make the prototype of the inflatable structure.【Testing and Improvement】: The prototype was tested repeatedly to observe people's feedback and experience. Some directions for improvement were noted, such as ease and intuitiveness of movement and operation, and adjustment of shelter space. Several modifications and improvements were made to ensure that its functionality and performance were optimized.【Final Prototype】: After many tests and improvements, a final prototype was obtained, which combines functional fabric, inflatable structure, and user-friendly operation design. This ensures that its convenience and performance are greatly enhanced when worn and transformed.
How it is different
The unique feature is the integration of shelter into clothing, using the same fabric variation to provide a wearable solution to meet the mobility and wear needs of homeless and refugee people. The quick-change design allows the user to quickly change the shape of the product according to different situations. In addition, the material and shape of the fabric make it not only lightweight but also minimizes the size and design to meet the needs of the user when moving, which is different from traditional shelter and clothing solutions.
Future plans
First, efforts are made to enhance our products' sustainability and environmental friendliness by using sustainable materials and manufacturing methods to reduce our environmental impact. Next, we will work with relevant agencies, rescue groups, and social enterprises to promote the adoption and promotion of our products, which will ensure a positive attitude and willingness to adopt them. Finally, we will expand the use of our products to include outdoor sports, camping, and rescue operations to meet a broader range of user needs. These efforts will ensure design sustainability, market acceptance, and diverse product applications.
