Currently, Mexico grapples with a severe water shortage and widespread wastage of potable water. It's crucial to adopt more sustainable home practices. Our goal is to enable everyone to utilize water efficiently by developing a system for storing and distributing reusable water. This initiative aims to maximize water use, particularly addressing the substantial daily waste from domestic activities like laundry. Research into greywater's potential for reuse in other activities has further driven our commitment to implementing this solution.


Comment ça marche

It is a simple and effective system. Water is directed from the washing machine to a storage tank via a dedicated hose. This tank has a capacity of 180 liters. At the bottom of the tank, two faucets are installed, allowing buckets to be filled with the stored water. These buckets have capacities of 12, 4, and 2 liters, ideal for activities such as washing the patio, flushing the toilet, or watering plants. Additionally, the system is equipped with reusable filters installed on the faucet nozzles to eliminate odors and residues from the wash water. It also features an adjustable container that can be attached and removed to catch any water that spills during the process. The system is easy to use and requires no additional energy. Furthermore, the tank is equipped with a basic filter that traps large particles, ensuring that the water is clean enough for reuse in the aforementioned tasks.


Processus de conception

We started by identifying the problem of water wastage in the home. We researched the concept of greywater reuse and generated several ideas for a practical and efficient system, considering safety and feasibility. We created sketches and quick prototypes of the potential solutions to analyze size and efficiency. We made adjustments, including the arrangement of components, storage capacity, and optimization of the valves to facilitate bucket filling. We built a second 3D prototype incorporating all the improvements. This prototype showed significantly improved performance, with more effective filtration and easier and faster water distribution. Each stage of the design process focused on enhancing the functionality and ease of use of the system, ensuring it was a viable solution for any household concerned with sustainable water use.


En quoi est-il différent ?

AquaReSmart focuses specifically on reusing gray water for common household tasks such as watering plants and flushing toilets. Many gray water reuse systems are designed for broader or industrial applications, whereas this one is perfectly tailored to daily household needs. The design is simple and user-friendly, requiring no technical knowledge for installation or maintenance, which makes it accessible to anyone. Unlike other gray water reuse systems that can be costly and complicated, this design uses economical materials and is intended to be a low-cost solution. This allows more people to adopt it without a significant investment.


Plans pour l'avenir

We want to bring AquaReSmart to communities affected by water scarcity to facilitate water reuse. We hope that its design will contribute significantly to water conservation and the reduction of potable water consumption in households. Furthermore, we aim to promote the adoption of sustainable practices in more homes through the utilization of gray water, driven by the accessibility and effectiveness of AquaReSmart.
