Our product is meant to tackle the issue of reducing secondhand smoking and lingering odor from cigarettes while assisting current smokers with a common issue of littering in Singapore. While allowing it to be portable and convenient for smokers to use.
Votre source d'inspiration
Many were thinking about solving a persisting matter that would help a targeted group of people, we thought that it would be a better idea to find a matter where solving it would not bring inconvenience to another. Adding to the fact that our group consists of a few smokers, we though of helping secondhand smokers which is a persisting issue while trying our best to reduce the big changes to an everyday smoker. This would meet our goals of assisting both sides of the issue.

ASTRA's main capability is utilizing a fan to direct cigarette smoke through a filter to reduce odor and bad air. The fan would suck in the cigarette smoke directing it down a shaft which would then go through a filter. In our case, we have chosen a carbon-activated HEPA filter as it would filter the bad substance in the cigarette smoke and also helps to remove the odor from the cigarette smoke. Our product also has a well-designed space to allow smokers to dispose of their butts temporarily to avoid littering issues which is taken as of utmost importance and can be punishable in Singapore.
Processus de conception
Our first step was to produce a prototype where we could find the general concept of the product, in terms of shape and size, As you can see from the attached images, it's a very simple cup and fan look. We knew that our next prototype would be more or less how our final prototype would look like. We did not want to have multiple prototypes, therefore we experimented with CAD drawings to see which would be the most ideal for our situation, scrutinizing the measurements and shape. From here we 3D printed our prototype, which allowed us to perform simple testing to pinpoint the required adjustments and potential improvements. From here we adjusted the CAD drawing again with different variations to then lead to our current prototype, which we then 3D printed for testing again, as we know the prototype worked from the first 3D printed form, we only had to make sure it worked the same or better in the current one.
En quoi est-il différent ?
Our product has a unique concept to any other products that can be deemed comparable in the market right now. No product currently has the concept of utilizing a fan to direct cigarette smoke and it does not tackle multiple issues at once. Our design also serves to be ergonomic and convenient to use.
Plans pour l'avenir
ASTRA has room for improvement, although the main goal of the product has been achieved from our concept, there are smaller improvements such as finding a better-optimized fan module, finding a battery that can be smaller to integrate the battery with the product to improve its ergonomics and design.
