Cosa fa?

DetectorNose is a facial filter and a wearable computer that not only protecting from pollutants, but also monitoring them so that they can be controlled autonomously and in real time directly on your own smartwatch.

La tua ispirazione

The idea comes from the need for clear, detailed and not manipulated information about what we are forced to breath every day. In fact, the research phase showed that: - There are few cities around the world owning monitoring network; - O.M.S. researches show that millions of the people die every year due to pollution, which is considered by I.A.R.C. like a type 1 human carcinogenic; - Nowadays, there is a greater awareness of the effects of atmospheric pollution on human health. For this reason public opinion asks for a better information.

Come funziona?

The device consists of two elements: a technological piece and filter itself. The first monitors the levels of carbon dioxide and nitrogen through sensors. The facial filter is composed by a biocompatible thermoplastic elastomer containing a biogel that, by localized electrostatic charges, attracts and traps particles thanks to its viscosity. The technological piece can be removed from the mask in order to replace electronic parts and/or sanitize the filter. Once the device is turned on, geolocated and registered, you can read the data on your app, share them and find out what other users are reporting. Thanks to the GPS and to the once per second detection, you can read the point-to-point location on a map showing in real time both the user’s route and the environmental values. In addition, comparing the data of nearby user, the device an suggest a different itinerary. You can read the data by a video or listen to them by the headset via voice commands.

Processo di progettazione

The design process is divided into: research, design development and final design. The first step is the research phase, to study the subject and find out which products are already on the market. The second step is the design development, during which an analysis of the target and he scenarios of use is carried out, drawing the first shapes and researching materials. After have been defined shape, dimension and app.

In che modo è differente?

DetectorNose is designed as an innovative dust facial filter that monitoring and retaining pollutants, ensuring a good fit and thermal and psychological comfort.

Progetti per il futuro

The project is not to be considered complete. It’s only a concept yet. Much has to be verified and improved, such as material: currently used materials are those offered by actual market. Even with regard to technology, a compromise was needed between the technological devices currently in use and the initial idea of a much smaller and more discrete device. The next step will be to create a prototype and to perform user testing in order to check the design choices and, if necessary, modify them.
